Driving up the M18 the sky was blue and there was a fresh breeze. At the coast though, the sky was overcast and it did not look very windy. A quick check on the beach showed 4.7 to 5.3 m sails rigged, but it was clearly dropping off, so I rigged 6.2m and went out. First run was Ok but then the wind dropped further, I fell off in the break and could not waterstart. Everyone came off the water and I thought that was it; should have got up earlier.

I decided to wait around rather than pack up and go. Then the sky cleared and the wind came back, albeit a lttlle gusty. Quite difficult to get planing on the way out but some decent swells gave tempting ramps. Excellent on the way in, riding the swells and small waves. The swells were running in parallel to the beach, which faces east, but there was some chop, blown by the NE breeze, forming on the swells which made things complicated at times.

Overall, an excellent afternoon session in the sunshine, well worth the drive.
